A bank feed brings your UK bank movements in so you can check them against your books.
The connection is read-only, it cannot move money, and importing a movement records nothing. Go to NeroBooks → Accounts → Bank feeds.
What it does and does not do
| It does | It does not |
|---|---|
| show money in and out of your account | move, send or take money |
| give you something to match against | record a sale, an expense or a VAT claim |
| refresh on a schedule once connected | replace the entries you make |
⚠️ Warning: Importing is not recording. A movement here changes no report until it is matched to an entry you approved.
Connecting a bank
Only the account owner can connect or disconnect a bank.
| What to expect | Detail |
|---|---|
| + Connect a bank | starts the connection |
| Authorisation | consent is given through your bank, using open banking |
| What it can do | read movements only |
| First import | up to 90 days; longer histories keep arriving in batches |
| Afterwards | the connection shows in the table with its consent and next refresh |
How often it refreshes
Refresh runs on a schedule. An account is due again six hours after the last one, and the real timing depends on the queue and on your bank. The Next attempt column tells you when NeroBooks will try next.
Reviewing movements
| Filter | What it does |
|---|---|
| From / To | a date range |
| Environment | LIVE or TEST — kept separate; TEST movements are rehearsal data and must not be treated as your real bank activity |
| Account | one account or all |
| Review status | all, unmatched, matched, or changed after match |
| Direction | money in, money out, or both |
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Unmatched | not tied to anything in your books yet |
| Matched | tied to an entry you recorded |
| Changed after match | it was matched, then something changed — look again |
What is not a new sale
Plenty of money arriving is not income. Match it to what already exists rather than recording it again.
- A card settlement paying out sales you recorded
- A transfer from another of your accounts
- A loan or finance receipt
- Money the owner put in
- A refund from a supplier
💡 Note: Work through Unmatched regularly. Movements are far easier to identify in the same week they happened.
Checking a connection
The Consent and Next attempt columns tell you where each connection stands. Only the account owner can connect or disconnect.
Frequently asked questions
Can NeroBooks take money out?
No. The connection is read-only and cannot send money. Your banking credentials go in at your bank, never in NeroBooks.
How far back does the first import go?
Up to 90 days at the start. More history keeps arriving in batches.
Can my bookkeeper connect the bank?
No. That is the account owner only.
Nothing updated today. What do I check?
The Next attempt column. Accounts are due six hours after the last refresh, and the real timing depends on the queue and your bank.
Do I still need to enter bills?
Yes. A bank movement shows money left the account. The bill is what says what it was for and what VAT was on it.
