Six reports are built from your approved entries and download as CSV, Excel or PDF.
They tell you how the business is doing. They are not tax returns, and they are not accounts signed off by an accountant. Go to NeroBooks → Reports.
The six
| Report | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Profit & loss | income, expenses, and the profit or loss before tax |
| Balance sheet | what you own and owe at the end date, with a balance check |
| Cash movements | opening cash and bank, money in, money out, closing figure |
| Trial balance | every account balance, to check the books balance |
| Two-year comparison | this period, the same dates last year, and the change |
| VAT ledger review | the VAT sitting in your records for the period |
⚠️ Warning: The VAT ledger review is not the nine boxes of a VAT return and must not be submitted as one. It is there so you can look your records over.
Choosing what to run
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Report | which of the six |
| Period | custom dates, year to date, last financial year, last two, or this month |
| From / To | used with custom dates |
| Currency | one at a time — figures never convert or add across currencies |
| Payment method | cash, card / payment clearing, bank, or unpaid invoices and bills |
💡 Note: Leave Payment method on All methods for the balance sheet and trial balance. The screen says so too.
What you get
- Three tiles: income, expenses, and profit or loss before tax
- An income and expenses breakdown by month, above every report
- The report itself, with its name, dates and currency
- CSV, Excel and PDF buttons
What the figures include
| Rule | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Approved entries only | drafts are invisible; a low figure usually means unapproved drafts |
| One currency at a time | nothing converts, so run each currency separately |
| Balance sheet uses closing balances | opening and earlier posted entries are included whatever start date you pick |
| Cash movements is cash and bank only | unsettled card money is out, and transfers cancel |
| Two-year comparison uses the same dates last year | no adjustment for a different number of trading days |
Every report carries the same footnote: it comes from approved entries, missing opening balances or unrecorded activity can make it incomplete, and it is a management report rather than a certified statement or a tax calculation.
When the balance sheet does not balance
There is a Balance check (must be zero) line. If it is not zero, something is missing rather than broken. Usually: opening balances never entered, a journal whose sides do not match, or entries still sitting as drafts.
Sending figures to a lender
The Applying for finance? panel explains that a lender may want more than these reports, often an accountant's signed letter, which NeroBooks cannot produce or certify. Request a letter review starts that conversation.
Asking NeroAi
The NeroAi report review panel gives a plain-English read of what you have recorded. It is guidance, and it changes and files nothing.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my profit and loss empty?
Almost always because the entries are still drafts. Filter Bookkeeping by Draft, check them, and approve the right ones.
Can I get one report for all currencies?
No. Nothing is converted or added across currencies. Run it once per currency.
Does the download match my filters?
Set the report up on screen first and check the header shows the report, dates and currency you want before downloading.
Can I give these to my accountant?
Yes, and it is a good idea. They are management figures from your records, so your accountant will still review them before certifying anything.
Why does my balance sheet include older entries?
Balance sheets show closing balances at the end date, so opening balances and earlier posted entries always count, whatever start date you pick.
