How pricing works — who sets what

NeroPay decides who pays its processing fees and sets the floor beneath every rate. You decide what your merchants are charged. Here is exactly where that line falls.

NeroConnect splits pricing between two parties. NeroPay decides who pays its processing fees and sets the floor beneath every rate. You decide what your merchants are charged. This article explains exactly where that line falls, so you know which settings are yours to change and which need a request to NeroPay.

The short version

Decision Who owns it
Who pays NeroPay's processing fee NeroPay — shown read only in your settings
Who pays the monthly active account and terminal fees NeroPay — shown read only in your settings
What each merchant is charged per payment You
What each merchant is charged for additional services You
The floor beneath any price you set NeroPay — applied automatically
Payout limits NeroPay sets the maximum. You may set a stricter one

💡 Note: The two arrangements NeroPay owns decide where money is collected from. They do not decide what your merchants pay — that is yours, in every partnership mode.

The two arrangements NeroPay sets

Go to NeroConnect → Settings → Pricing. The first two panels are marked read only.

Processing fee payer

Setting What happens on each payment
Platform account The connected account is reduced by your fee. NeroPay's processing cost is charged separately to your platform balance, so you carry the spread between the two
Connected account NeroPay collects its processing cost from the merchant directly, and your fee is credited to you on top

Monthly active account and terminal fee payer

Charged to the connected account first. Where the merchant cannot cover it, the charge falls back to your platform balance.

⚠️ Changing either arrangement means contacting NeroPay. A change to the monthly arrangement has to be requested explicitly — it does not follow automatically from a change to the processing arrangement.

What you set

Below the read-only panels on the same page you set your platform defaults — the pricing applied to every merchant you create from that point on. Pricing is split by payment channel, then by additional service.

Group Applies to
Online Payment API Online, API and store-order payments
Card Terminal Physical terminal payments
Manual Keyed Card Keyed and virtual terminal payments
Additional services SMS, non-UK cards, extra payment methods, instant payout, transaction refunds — charged per event, when used

Each group takes a fixed fee and a percentage fee. Additional services are covered in their own article.

The protected base

Every additional service prints its protected base beneath the field. That is NeroPay's cost for the service. If you enter a retail price below it, the base is applied automatically instead.

This means you cannot resell a service below cost through this screen, and only genuinely funded positive margin is credited to your platform.

💡 Note: A service priced exactly at its protected base shows a margin of 0.00% in Connect Reports. That is correct, not an error — it means you are passing the service through at cost.

Overriding one merchant

Platform defaults apply to merchants created after you set them. To price a single merchant differently, go to NeroConnect → Connected Accounts, open the account and use the Merchant pricing tab. The fields are the same.

Precedence, from weakest to strongest

  • Your platform default pricing
  • That account's own pricing, which overrides the default
  • NeroPay's protected base and hard caps, which override both

⚠️ An older account whose pricing fields are all zero inherits your platform default for that payment kind. Setting a value on the account stops that inheritance.

Who can see what

Two separate controls decide how much fee detail is visible, and both are yours.

Control What it does
Transaction History fee visibility
Settings → Pricing
Reveals NeroPay processing fees and original transaction references to your platform account and authorised platform staff only
Hide rates, costs and commission on statement reports
Settings → Dashboard
Removes rates, deductions, commission and fee-derived totals from the statements your connected accounts generate

Neither affects standard NeroPay merchants outside your platform.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set my own merchant pricing, or does NeroPay set it?

You set it. NeroPay sets who pays its processing fee and the floor beneath each rate, but what your merchants are charged is yours to decide, per channel and per service, either as a platform default or on an individual account.

Why did the fee I entered change after saving?

The value was below the protected base printed beneath that field, so the base was applied instead. Enter a figure at or above the base to keep your own value.

I changed my platform defaults. Did my existing merchants change too?

No. Defaults apply to merchants created after the change. To change an existing merchant, open its account and use the Merchant pricing tab. The exception is an older account with all-zero pricing, which inherits the default.

Will my merchants see what I am charging them above NeroPay's cost?

Merchants see what they are charged. They do not see NeroPay's cost to you. If you would also prefer rates, deductions and commission not to appear on the statements they generate, turn on the statement visibility setting under Settings → Dashboard.

How do I change who pays the processing fee?

Contact NeroPay using the request route shown on the Pricing tab. If you also want the monthly active account and terminal fee arrangement changed, say so explicitly — the two are handled separately.
